Justin - my advice to you is similar as for Danielle, who is also doing an economic story. Find a specific angle, and explore that. Even "unemployment" is a big topic, but if you find one compelling story (a person, or family) and tell us how they are struggling with the recession, that might be the most interesting way. Think small, at least at first. Start with one family, then expand to others affected, and maybe end with that same family. (The "Diamond" format) Or - find some other specific angle of the recession that you think is interesting-and can be accomplished in a two-page story.
